  • The United Nations Secretary General, Antólogo Guterre, warned that the world is on a “highway to climate hell” at the COP27 summit.
  • Putin ally Yevgeniy Prigozhin boasted that he interfered in U.S. midterm elections.
  • U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson issued her first opinion with dissent, regarding the Supreme Court’s denial to hear a death row inmate’s appeal.
  • Democrats sued to count the undated or incorrectly dated mail-in ballots in the Pennsylvania election, which could determine which political party controls the Senate.

  • The winning ticket for the $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot was sold at an Altadena gas station.
  • Ukrainian President Zelenskyy said he was open to “genuine peace talks” with Russia, following the concerns regarding the rising costs of the war from Western support.
  • Brittney Griner began her transfer to a Russian penal colony (see 11/3).

  • CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced Meta will lay off 11,000 employees.
  • Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu ordered Russian troops to withdraw from Kherson (see 10/24).
  • Hurricane Nicole passed through Florida, making its way to the interior southeastern United States with strong winds and rainstorms.

  • Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark A. Milley, said that over 100,000 Russian soldiers have been killed or injured in the Russo-Ukrainian war and “probably” an equivalent number of Ukrainian soldiers.
  • Alex Jones was ordered to pay another $473 million in the Sandy Hook lawsuits, bringing the total to $1.4 billion (see 10/12).
  • Several top Twitter executives resigned, some stating fears over the risks of Elon Musk’s leadership (see 10/28, 11/4).

  • A Texas federal judge struck down President Biden’s student loan relief plan (see 10/17).
  • Brazil’s Defense Ministry showed no fraud in its presidential election (see 10/30-11/1).
  • At least 5 people have been killed in Florida due to Hurricane Nicole (see 11/9).

  • Ukraine’s assistant environment minister, Svitlana Grynchuk, discussed the environmental toll the Russo-Ukrainian war has taken on the territory, including air, water, and land pollution, at the COP27 climate summit.
  • Two World War II-era planes collided in midair during a Dallas airshow.

Election Results *

  • John Fetterman won the Pennsylvania race for Senator against Dr. Oz.
  • Kathy Hochul won the New York race for Governor against Lee Zeldin.
  • Greg Abbott won the Texas race for Governor against Beto O’Rourke.
  • The Georgia Senate race of Raphael Warnock versus Herschel Walker is set for runoff in December after neither candidate reached 50% of the vote.
  • Ron DeSantis and Marco Rubio won their races for governor and senator, respectively.
  • Democrats maintain control of the U.S. Senate, following the reelection of Nevada Senator Catherine Cortez Masto. The win prevented the highly predicted “red wave.”
  • George Santos won the New York District 3 congressional race against Robert Zimmerman.
