10/17

  • Russia hit Kyiv and Sumy with what seems to be Iranian-made “kami-kaze” drones, killing at least 12.
  • The Department of Justice asked a federal judge to sentence former Trump advisor Steve Bannon to 6 months in prison with a $200,000 fine for contempt of Congress.
  • The U.S. Supreme Court declined to look at a case asking whether American Samoans are granted birthright citizenship under the 14th Amendment.
  • A Washington state wildfire has forced thousands of citizens to evacuate.
  • The U.S. Department of Education launched the official student loan relief applications.

  • President Biden vowed that the first bill he will send to the new Congress will be legislation protecting abortion rights.
  • Stacey Abrams and Brian Kemp discussed their views on abortion, guns, and crime in a Georgia debate.
  • The family of George Floyd is planning to file a $250 million lawsuit against Kanye West for his comments on Floyd’s death on the podcast Drink Champs. The lawsuit will be filed by the mother of Gianna Floyd for “harassment, misappropriation, defamation, and infliction of emotional distress.”
  • Analysis Igor Danchenko, who was charged with four counts of lying to the FBI, was acquitted, seeming to be the final case originating from John Durham’s investigation into the ties between former President Trump and Russia.
  • Anna May Wong has become the first Asian-Asian to be featured on U.S. currency.

  • New York City opened a giant tent shelter for migrants who were sent to the city from the southern border states.
  • Putin declared martial law in the four annexed Ukrainian regions (see 9/20).
  • A California federal judge ruled that former President Trump signed a sworn statement claiming accurate voter fraud numbers, despite being told the numbers were incorrect.
  • According to the FDA, Makena, the only FDA-approved drug aimed to prevent premature birth, should not be taken due to the speculated ineffectiveness.
  • WHO halved the cholera dose given to hospital patients, following the shortage of cholera vaccines.
  • Former President Trump provided a deposition in the rape case brought by E. Jean Carroll.

10/20

  • Liz Truss resigned as Britain’s Prime Minister.
  • Ukraine’s national energy company announced that citizens should “charge everything,” with the expectancy of power cuts caused by Russian missile strikes.
  • At the latest U.N. Security Council meeting, the U.S., U.K., and France accused Iran of selling drones to Russia, despite the ban that prohibits the transfer of drones (see 10/17).
  • Alexei Nalalvy said that Russian authorities have initiated a new criminal case against him for promoting terrorism and extremism, which could possibly double his prison sentence.
  • After allegations from Anthony Rapp, Kevin Spacey was found not liable for battery.
  • The Pentagon will pay for service members to travel for abortion care.
  • Senator Lindsey Graham must testify in the 2020 election investigation.
  • Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett denied the challenge to Biden’s student loan relief program without explanation or referring to the full court.

  • Steve Bannon has been sentenced to 4 months in prison for contempt of Congress following the Jan. 6 insurrection (see 10/17).

  • A shooting at Methodist Dallas hospital has left 2 dead, and a suspect has been put into custody.
  • Giorgia Meloni was sworn in as Italy’s prime minister.
  • Iran said it would sue the U.S. for having “direct involvement” in the current human rights protests.
