  • China sent dozens of warplanes towards Taiwan during its second day of military drills (see 4/8).

4/10

  • 5 people were killed and 9 were hospitalized following a shooting at Old National Bank in Louisville.
  • President Biden signed a House bill ending the COVID-19 national emergency, which was enacted during the Trump administration in 2020.
  • A Virginia grand jury indicted the mother of the 6-year-old boy who shot his first grade teacher (see 1/25).
  • The Justice Department appealed the decision in Texas that would block access to mifepristone across the country (see 4/8).
  • Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee announced plans to hold a hearing to investigate Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas (see 4/7).
  • Tennessee state Rep. Justin Jones was reinstated to the Tennessee House of Representatives (see 4/6).

  • More than 17,000 U.S. and Philippine soldiers began their largest ever joint troop exercises, as the countries unite due to tensions with China in the Asia-Pacific region.
  • The Democratic national Committee chose Chicago to host the 2024 Democratic National Convention.
  • Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg sued Republican Rep. Jim Jordan, aiming to block the House Judiciary Committee’s subpoena of Mark Pomerantz, who formerly led the Manhattan district’s attorney’s investigation of former President Trump.
  • Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced that he will temporarily remove Sen. Dianne Feinstein from the Senate Judiciary Committee due to her inability to vote as she recovers from an illness (see 2/21).

  • Tennessee state Rep. Justin Pearson was reinstated to the Tennessee House of Representatives (see 4/6).
  • A fire at a plastic storage facility in Indiana led to an evacuation order for the 2,000 people living within a half-mile radius of the site. The cause of the fire was unknown, but officials stated that the owner of the facility was previously warned multiple times about fire hazards.
  • The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit announced limits on how patients obtain mifepristone and how late into the pregnancy  it can be used (see 4/8).
  • The Biden administration plans to expand its monitoring of social media sites and chat rooms after U.S. intelligence agencies failed to notice classified Pentagon documents circulating online for weeks.

  • The Department of Justice will ask the Supreme Court to restore full access to mifepristone (see 4/12).
  • Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed the Heartbeat Protection Act into law (see 4/3).
  • The FBI arrested a member of the Massachusetts Air National Guard in connection with the leaking of classified Pentagon documents (see 4/12).

  • A judge on Brazil’s Supreme Court ruled that former President Bolsonaro must testify before federal police within 10 days for his role in the Jan. 8 riots (see 1/8).
  • Colorado Gov. Jared Polis signed 3 bills that protect abortions into law.
  • Montana lawmakers approved a bill that bans TikTok in the state.

  • At least 27 people were killed and almost 400 were injured in Sudan due to the violence between the Rapid Support Forces, a paramilitary group led by Sudanese Vice President Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, and the military, which is led by President Abdel-Fattah al-Burhan.
