  • Former Minnesota police officer Kimberly Potter was released from prison after serving 16 months of a two-year sentence in the murder of Daunte Wright.
  • Fox News stated that Fox News Media and Tucker Carlson “have agreed to part ways.”
  • The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office hired Myles Cosgrove, the former Louisville police officer who killed Breonna Taylor.
  • Don Lemon announced that he was fired from CNN after 17 years at the network.
  • The Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces agreed to a 72-hour ceasefire starting at midnight on Apr. 24 (see 4/22).
  • 1 person was killed following a shooting at Rose State College in Oklahoma.
  • North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgas signed a bill that bans abortions after six weeks of pregnancy.
  • Protesters interrupted proceedings in the Montana legislature after Republican leaders prevented Rep. Zooey Zephyr from speaking on the dangers of restricting gender-affirming medical care for transgender youth for the third consecutive day.

  • Washington Gov. Jay Inslee signed a bill that aims to reduce gun violence, becoming the 10th state to ban assault weapons.

  • The White House National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby confirmed that 2 Americans were killed in Sudan (see 4/24).
  • Disney sued Florida Gov. DeSantis and his oversight board, accusing DeSantis of using his political power to punish Disney for exercising free speech.
  • The House voted to pass a bill that raises the debt ceiling for a year in return for spending cuts after House Speaker McCarthy worked to unify the Republican party in order to pass the legislation.

  • Former Vice President Pence testified to a federal grand jury investigating the actions of former President Trump following the 2020 presidential election (see 4/5).

  • At least 26 civilians in cities across Ukraine were killed by Russian missiles.
  • 2 bills aiming to ban abortion at six weeks of pregnancy in South Carolina and Nebraska’s legislatures failed to pass.
  • 3 people were killed and 1 was injured after 2 U.S. Army helicopters collided and crashed in Alaska.
  • Colorado Gov. Jared Polis signed 4 gun control bills into law.
  • Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte signed Senate Bill 99, banning gender-affirming care for minors in Montana and punishes the providers of the care (see 4/27).
